Passsenger ferry ‘Roslagen’ undergoes a major refit at Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet
Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet was tasked to carry out a complete refit to the 1979 built passenger ferry ‘Roslagen’, following on from a total refit to sister ship Skärgården in 2014.
Both vessels are operated by ferry company Waxholmsbolaget which operates daily, year-round boat traffic in the Stockholm archipelago.
Refit
The refit to ‘Roslagen’ involved almost entirely stripping out the vessel and completing major structural modifications to her superstructure, bow and wheelhouse.
The team at Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet also replaced the ferry’s propulsion system including all four engines, drivetrain and rudders.
In addition, a new complete electrical system apart from the generators was installed.
Renewal
As part of the project, all sanitary systems were replaced together with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and the interior was also completely stripped and renewed.
The last part of the project involved re-painting the ferry and then the ‘Roslagen’ left the yard to return to the Stockholm Archipelago and resume her duties.
