Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam upgrades and repairs twin seismic research vessels 'Oceanic Sirius' and 'Oceanic Vega'
On 4th November sister-ships Oceanic Sirius and Oceanic Vega departed from Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) following a 10-day, round-the-clock maintenance programme. The twin SX120 type seismic research vessels are state-of-the-art and owned by CGG Eidesvik Ship Management AS, a joint venture between Eidesvik Offshore and CGG.
The vessels came to DSAm for a series of repairs and upgrades as well as to have their hulls cleaned and repainted. The works included maintenance of the propeller nozzles on both vessels. By tenting the area around the propellers, DSAm was able to undertake the work without interrupting or delaying the paintworks. This helped minimise valuable time spent at the yard.
To maximise the efficient use of resources, the two 106-metre vessels were docked stern-to-stern in the yard’s 250-metre drydock no.4 in a tandem arrangement.
The works were overseen by CGG Eidesvik Ship Management AS. The company is a longstanding Damen client with the two groups sharing the same attitudes towards safety, quality and fast turnaround times. Comments from the CGG Eidesvik team following the completion of this latest project included: “The crew and staff members from Oceanic Vega and Oceanic Sirius were pleased with the mutual cooperation and impressed by the quick response on several repair items related to the seismic equipment on board. The safety level and culture were also up to both parties’ expectations and standards.”
