Major upgrade is performed on deep sea tug ‘MTS Victory’ by Damen Shipyards Den Helder
‘MTS Victory’ was built more than 40-years ago and returned to Damen Shipyards Den Helder for a major upgrade, general dry dock repairs and maintenance.
The vessel is owned by the Marine and Towage Services Group Ltd (MTS), based in the south west of England, which is a regular customer of Damen Shipyards Den Helder. ‘MTS Victory’ is the latest vessel owned by the company to dry dock at the yard.
The main tasks carried out included a non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection of the welds and plates of ‘MTS Victory’s’ hull, the renewal of plating and stiffeners and the addition of several angle bars to the vessel.
Other jobs included cleaning and painting the tug under and above the waterline, the renewal of several systems and coating of the vessel’s ballast tanks, fresh water tanks, forepeak tank and chain locker.
In the engine room, workers at Damen Shipyards Den Helder carried out maintenance work on the vessel’s two generators – a Perkins and a Caterpillar - and a complete overhaul and repairs to ‘MTS Victory’s’ single main engine, make ALCO, type 12V251F.
The final major job was a modification of the vessel’s boiler and air conditioning units.
The work continued the excellent relationship between the yard and MTS with the client very satisfied with the works performed.
