Flexible
An extensive conversion from a cable-laying vessel into a flexible-pipe layer is now underway at DSR's Schiedam facility using the yard's no.8 drydock thus making efficient use of the dock's 200 tonnes overheadcrane. The contract was awarded by Acergy who is long-term chartering the vessel which is owned by Rieber Shipping of Norway. The conversion involves the fabrication and fitting of approx. 1000 tons of steel incl. 3 m. wide sponsons, a pedestal for a 300 ton crane, a new accommodation unit for 44 persons, fitting 1 A&R (Abondonment & Recovery) winch and 1 Deployment winch, fitting a roll suppression- and heel correction system, upgrading the vessels' electrical systems incl. 60 km of cabling etc. After the work at DSR is completed, the vessel will be further outfitted with specialised offshore equipment manufactured by Messrs Huisman who are (conveniently) next door to the yard in Schiedam.

NEW and NEARLY NEW
The Dutch ferry Dokter Wagemaker, owned by TESO in Holland, was at DSR's Schiedam facility during the end of 2006 to undergo a guarantee drydocking in the yards covered drydock. The vessel was built and delivered to the TESO by Damen Shipyards in 2005. The work mainly involved clearing a variety of guaranteeitems and fitting additional bilgekeels while at the same time the engines were modified and provided with an electronic fuelinjection system all in order to meet very low emission requirements. With the Dokter Wagemaker back in service the yard is now involved in a life-extension upgrade of another TESO ferry: the "Schulpengat" The work involves an extensive blastingprogram, recoating her in the TESO's new color- and logo scheme, changing the vessels bridge consoles, extensive overhaul of the Voith Schneider propulsionsytems and various other upgradingworks.

SHUTTLE-YEAR
2006 Will go down into DSR's young history as the "SHUTTLE-YEAR".
Following North Sea shuttle tankers found their way to Schiedam for regular drydockings and repairs:
The M/T RAGNHILD KNUTSEN, M/T “RITA KNUTSEN” and M/T “BETTY KNUTSEN” of Messrs. Knutsen OAS, M/T “NORDIC SVENITA”, M/T “NAVION SCANDIA” and M/T “NAVION AKARITA” of Messrs. Teekay Marine Services.

OFF - SHORE
During the beginning of May last, DSR received the order from Helix (USA) for a conversion of the pipe-laying vessel “EXPRESS”. After completion of the work, the “EXPRESS” will have improved and better pipe-laying capabilities, ready to meet the challenges further involved in developing off-shore gas- and oilfields.
The conversion involves installing a new reel and repositioning the existing reel. Port and starboard aft quarters as well as some bulkheads will be modified while also the vessel will be provided with sponsons all in order to improve the vessels seagoing characteristics. A survey with relevant repairs and inspections will complete her upgrade.

On basis of the plans of the Helix engineers, both the Helix and DSR projectteams worked closely together to make as much use of the allowed preparation time before the vessel arrived in the yard end of June. The vessel docked end of July in order to further carry out the steelwork and complete the survey. On completion after a period with tests and trials, the ËXPRESS” was ready to play her prominent role in the Off-shore theatre.
